Morten Varano must be one of the hardest working men in dance music. Not content with forming one half of eccentric party funksters Los Chicharrons, the Dane also finds time to run a label (Murena) and Copenhagen club, Voodoo. There´s also the little matter of Puddu Varano, his on/off collaboration with Italian percussionist-come-producer Alex Puddu.
The duo are remarkably prolific considering Varano´s hectic schedule, and here follow last year´s heavily funk-influenced debut LP with a more varied and considered set. Encompassing laidback jazz-breaks ('Running With The Devil'), dub-funk-disco ('Blue Sky White Sand) good time funk ('Back To You') and even broken beat ('Finger Trip'), 'Time To Grow' is a great improvement on their fun but one dimensionel debut. Well-produced and full of surprices throughout, it´s one of those albums that can´t help but reel you in. A real surprise gem." ****
